Acoustic fencing
Hi Has anyone installed acoustic garden fencing to reduce road noise? If so, was it effective? Was it worth the cost? What is the lie of your garden and how far from the road are you? Any info is really appreciated. Thank you so much. -

I realise this post was written over a year ago now, but came across it in my research about acoustic fences. @"Singing Gardener" since installing your Jackson acoustic fence, did you hear a noticeable difference in traffic noise after the fence was installed? Thanks! -

Try looking up Jacksons soundproof fencing, and Buffalo acoustic fencing. This type of fencing is used near us to deflect noise from the M1. -

There is a noise reducing fence (acoustic barrier fence) and they do make a difference. About 8ft tall and solid wood. The cost depending on length is much higher than adding hedging. The acoustic barrier will take up little less room than a wall does. Is it possible to build up the wall to 2 metres? That should reduce… -

Any fence over two metres needs planning permission. Neighbours will object...lack of light etc. Google Gramm acoustic barriers. There should be something there to suit. -
Noise reduction fencing
Hi All We live next to an non-electrified railway line with mainly freight trains. These run 24 hours. We would like to reduce the noise and are thinking about acoustic fencing. Looking for recommendations. Thanks Dan -

Hmmm, those kind of neighbours, noise and peering through the fence! Go for the Thuja, double planted for softening the acoustics and visual blocking! It's a much nicer choice than cherry laurel and has a nice scent when bruised or trimmed. -

We are in a similar position and installed acoustic fencing which helps a lot but doesn't eliminate the noise entirely - especially when the bikers are out at the weekend! It's very high though (2.4 metres) so quite obtrusive both from the garden and from the road.
