Squirrels
We've always had lots of squirrels in the maritime pines that border the garden. They can be a bit of a nuisance digging up the tulips and raiding bird's nest but I like to see them in spite of this. Since the storms in February I've only seen one. Has anyone else noticed a lack of squirrels?

Red or Grey ?
I've got eight grey squirrels regularly on the lawn eating the bird seed, and the camellia flowers, and the magnolia flowers.....
they had at least two litters of kits last year.
They're in the area, but they tend not to come this way until the acorns fall, when they charge around everywhere gathering them up and looking for more - the excitement lasts about a week, then we don't see them again for another 12 months - fingers crossed!
Greys are a pest...........it is a shame they were introduced...........bit like many other invasive species.........I don't suppose we will ever learn really
It's called immigration!
Spelled "stupidity" perhaps ? Natural migration .......can't argue with that..............deliberate introduction........another matter entirely
Hear, Hear, Philippa! North American tree rats fall into the same category as sycamore, rabbits, Japanese knotweed etc.
Steve
Thank you............unfortunately, I think some people are getting things a bit muddled up......we are all frightened to death about making comments about invasive species in case we are labelled "anti this " or "anti that". It is difficult to undo what our forebears did but that is no reason to endorse it.
I think you could add a few more species to your list
Sorry Swiss Sue............don't wish to gripe but there is a difference.
.....
I'm quite happy to be labelled anti-invasive-species-threatening-our-native-wildlife !
