Ideas for pot planting July/August

HenryPHenryP Cornwall Posts: 26
Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could plant in container pots now? They're a relatively decent size and I'm preferably looking for something flowering, ideally in Winter.

Thank you in advance!

Pansies, violas and bellis will flower in winter

To give your pot extra interest and some height, I'd add a dahlia or small ornamental grass like Stipa tenuissima to complement the suggestions above.  The dahlia will flower until the first frosts, many stocked in garden centres at the moment.  Erigeron karvinskianus will also flower until December in mild areas and will cascade over your pot to add more character.

In a sunny spot you could try Helleborous Niger, Ophiopogon and anevergreen Carex,

I would suggest a nice evergreen shrub like skimmia, Hebe or nandina in the middle, and surround it with primulas. Could add a heuchera and trailing ivy.

I'm planning to plant a few geraniums / pelargoniums from separate pots into a big pot that has become free. When winter comes I'll move the pot indoors or inside the porch. They overwintered well last year and continued to flower indoors.

@HenryP Whoops! Thought you were looking at later in the year sorry. I have just suggested Salvia microphylla on another thread. I grow it in my garden but not in a pot. Other forum members may have more information on this for you.
There are lots of different ones personally I don't like S Hot Lips but that's me.
