PSB is this ready?

Hi everyone hope you are surviving the weather.

First time growing PSB and very confused as I thought it wouldn't be ready until next spring. It looks really healthy. Head is about 6" tall but only about half the size of a head of broccoli you get from the store.

Is it ready? Thanks for any opinions x

Yes it's ready @Blondie73. I have one just the same and flipping miffed as I don't want them until next spring. I'll have mine for tea today though. I have no idea why mine is so early it's certainly not because it's been warm up here more like the opposite.

Thank you. I was wondering if it was supposed to get bigger but then I heard someone say they can flower if left too long.

Please could I also ask, do I cut the main stem and leave the side shoots? Will they produce something later?

Yes cut and enjoy the main shoot … then the side shoots will develop, but they won’t get as big as the main shoot.
One of my favourite veggies. 😋

Some of my kale ran up and flowered in weeks.  I  blame the weather .

Wonderful thank you so much it's a nice surprise. Weirdly the others in my plot are not doing much so hopefully some for next spring 😁. It's fun learning.

Well, I've just picked mine @Blondie73 and I'll cut it in half so it looks more. Huh! Determined not to waste it even though it would cost more to cook it. Just thought as I'm typing this, I'll put it into a salad uncooked. That'll do nicely. I have one cherry tomato in the greenhouse ready to eat so pure ambrosia. Doesn't take much to make me happy.

Me too Blondie, an unexpected treat. I hope that's the last until next year though.

My supplier lady in the local market sells different types of PSB with staggered cropping.  Our latest batch are nearing the end and running to flower.
