I grow Echiveria imbricata, and find it really easy to create new plants. They tend to climb out of the pots a bit, so I just snap a bit off and pull off any dead leaves. This will give you enough of a stem length to put into gritty compost and away you go.
One big pot I had succumbed to vine veevil last year ... but all the rootless bits were saved and potted up. They've all come away, and some have made nice gifts for friends and neighbours.
So I find them pretty bomb-proof really.
