Lemon tree Canada

Hi everyone, I have 2 little lemon seeds I started to put them in a paper towel in a plastic bag and spray them with water. Both of them germinated i transferred them in a container with good citrus soil. My questions are : should I cover them ?do I keep them in shade or sun ? I tried last year and I think they rotten but this year im really hoping for the best. By the way I live in Canada I know citrus don’t really grow here but I’m just trying for fun. Thank you.

    Not in Canada,in the sunny warmest corner of the SE UK 10 minutes from the sea,where we used to live,we always had a grapefruit on a Sunday,I had window sill propagators near the table hubby shoved a lemon and grapefruit pip into whatever was growing there. They book "took" the lemon got to a good foot tall,then lost its leaves and died no idea why. The grapefruit went from strength to strength,is now over 25 years old and is his baby! It flowered after 10 years we were so excited, people are convinced it is grafted,the trunk is a beast. will try and post a picture. You say yours have germinated,is that them in the picture. I wouldn't pot on until there are really good size plants and outgrown their pots. Keep them warm,  light position but not direct sun. Ours all go outside in the summer

    Many people in the UK - which is where this forum is based - grow citrus plants in greenhouses or conservatories that have protection from winter frost.   Being abit further soth and warmer I take my 3 outside once night time temps get above 5C and they spend the summer on the south side of our house, protected by the wall.   Once temperatures dip again they go back in the polytunnel.

    You need to keep yours warm, especially at night and water carefully as they grow so they don't get thirsty but neither do they sit with wet feet.   In the warmer half of teh year citrus plants need a high nitrogen feed to maintain their foliage and then, from autumn, you switch to a specialist citrus feed high in potash, potassium and magnesium plus a few other trace elements for flower and fruit production.

    Do I only feed it when leaves comes out or even right now. Sorry for my English it’s not my first language.

    I wouldn't start feeding till it's a few cms high and has several leaves as there will be enough nutrients in the compost to begin with.   Keep an eye on the bottom of the pot for signs of roots as that is the signal to move it to a slightly bigger pot and start and to use a good, loamy compost rather than fibrous multi purpose.  

    Let us know how it goes on.  One thing you need to know is that the variety will be unknown and may take years to get to flowering size, even if well protected from cold and fed and watered properly.

    I live in Montréal maybe that will help ahah I live south of Canada but still. I know woman who grow citrus in north of Quebec in a greeen house obviously but I was pretty impressed. Lots of money in heat tho. By the way wow 25 years old that’s awesome omg 👏.
