seed sowing

Hi All, please can anyone give me advice on an effective method of sowing foxglove seeds.  Regards Rose.

Dunno really. I have sown them in trays and pots with poor results, but if left to their own devices they self-sow and come up in random strange places. One of my jobs for the weekend is to transplant the ones that are coming up in my tomato pots.

If you have packeted seed, you normally only get a small amount so mix with some fine dry silver sand and then sow on the surface of a tray of compost. Water in and leave in a cool place.
  • I use those mini propogators, really tiny, can fit 4 in a standard seed tray, any MPC, tamp seeds down, very thin layer of perlite or vermiculite on the top, sprinkling of water. In cold greenhouse, sow some in august, some following spring. Ones from august are now planted out.  They do take a time to germinate.
