Can I sow seeds directly in hanging baskets

I have petunias, alyssum, and nasturtium and some busy kiddies. Wondering if I can jus put these straight in the basket, and if so shall I keep the basket indoors for a bit?

    I sow straight into baskets shannon and leave them in the greenhouse until the weather improves. Just bringing mine out now and tidying them up.

    I am guessing you meant busy lizzies?  All those seeds will take 2-3 weeks to get going so you might need to shield from the wind and rain (if we ever get any) or if you have a greenhouse that's the best place.

    I would forget the petunias - the seeds and seedlings are miniscule and will never compete with the others.

    The nasturtiums should do fine. Big seeds and they germinate and grow quickly. A few would probably fill a basket on their own.
