What’s going on with my buddleia??

Just starting to get into gardening, bought a buddleia and stuck it in the ground. A couple of weeks passed, and after a bit more reading realised I should probably water it until it established etc. When I went out to it again the very bottom leaves were turning brown at the ends, but there was new growth. So anyway I started regularly watering it, thinking maybe lack of water was the reason for the brown leaf tips, however now another few weeks have passed and the next leaves up that were previously healthy are now turning brown at the tips. What’s going on? Checked soil with finger and it was a little moist but not waterlogged...only thing was the soil was quite compacted, I had to dig my finger down to test it. Any ideas?

It's normal for leaves to sustain a bit of damage as they age.  It's only in the plant catalogues that they stay uniformly green and flawless.

And it could have been under cover or in a more sheltered position on the nursery, and browned a bit just from being put out in the open. It'll be fine, the top new leaves look good and healthy. You're doing the right thing by keeping it moist at the roots. Carry on with that for this summer (particularly if it gets hot and dry).
