Azara Serrata - Andean Gold

I took two cuttings of this lovely fragrant shrub this Spring and they grew rapidly so I potted them on.   A couple of days later I saw black on the leaves and thought it was soil but after a few more days both cuttings had black leaves.  I sprayed with a fungicide and also a bug killer but the leaves started to fall.   What went wrong?

I don't think it was wise to start spraying them with anything when you don't know what the problem is.
They could be too wet, or in too big a pot, which can cause problems with small roots. It's not a fully hardy plant in the UK, so it will depend on how and where you're keeping them.  You may have potted them on too soon, and it's been too much for the cuttings to cope with.
A photo would help, plus more info about how you've been keeping them  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
