Plant identification

Attached are two plants found on sand dunes in July. I can not identify them! The first is the green leaf plant with those circular buds growing and the second is the purple flower plant. Any help would be much appreciated!

First one could be Old Man's Beard (Clematis vitalba)
Sure I know the second one,but name escapes me for now,so I may come back with that one!!
