Could anyone please tell us what this plant is growing in our garden it has self seeded and we have no idea as to what it maybe. Size approx 4’6 inches tall with one small flower head.
Any help much appreciated.

    That looks like a Verbascum ... common name Mullein.  The flower spike will grow ... they self seed around a bit and often just pop up ... they're biennials (that means that they take two years to flower and then die) so yours must have been in your garden last year, but it will just have been a small rosette of leaves so you may not have noticed it.

    Yours looks like the common type which self seed most often  ... there are others which have rusty, pinky, purplish or creamy flowers.

    They are very useful cottage garden plants, they’ll poke their heads up above everything else, even taller than the delphiniums. Here’s a pic of mine one year. Actually I think the yarrow next to it wants to be the tallest😀
