Coleus question

image

Hi all,

A friend of mine has given me 2 young coleus plants that I have decided to make into house plants.

I have repotted both and pinched back some of the top growth to encourage new growth and have placed them next to each other next to a window that offers them plenty of light but not harsh sun.

Both plants are getting plenty of new growth but for some reason one of the plants new growth at the top is completely missing the red colour and us completely green?? The other plants new leaves are fine.

Not too sure what happened or what I can do about it. Should I remove any leaves that are just green, or take the stem down to where the plant is showing the right colours? Any advise please would be great. Thanks.

Regards

Jay

I think they need lots of direct sunlight ... they can cope with it ... this will allow the colouration to develop. image

mine sit on my south facing patio and get sun until about 5pm at the moment.
Don't let the compost get too wet or it can cause die-back
When you see the tiny flower spike appearing, nip it off. Once the plant has flowered it dies.
I'm nipping off about 20 a day at the mo. There comes a time when I can't keep up (usually mid sept) by which time the plants are starting to go over anyway

  • Those look great. may have to take some cuttings and try some outdoors next spring. May have to cut the green leaves back and try to provide more sun and see if that helps get the red back in the leaves.

    Thanks.

Don't cut the green leaves off!!!  ... the colour will develop when you give them enough sunshineimage
