Filling in pond
I recently moved into a house with a garden that has decent patio and border areas, but the bulk of the garden is taken up with a pond and shingle/small pebbles. I have a 1 year old and really would prefer a lawn!
I have drained the pond and removed the liner. Having done some Googling and spoken to a few people I am going to take all of the shingle from the garden, plus some unwanted larger stones, and put these into the hole first. I will then put in a layer of sand for drainage, followed by soil and finally some kind of topsoil. This should leave me with a clear garden of soil that I can prepare for laying turf in September. I'm aware that I may need to 'crown' the soil over the pond to allow for subsidence as it settles.
I was wondering if anyone had some feedback on my proposed approach, or any tips from their own experience? I have never filled in a pond before!
