Rust on blackberry stems?

Last year's fruit bearing main stems on my 10 year old thornless blackberry have a pretty heavy dose of what I assume is rust (elongated orange markings). I know there's no spray available to be used, but has anyone else experienced this, if so do the fruit/plant survive?

The usual way to grow blackberries is to remove the fruited stems after harvesting the fruit, and tie in the new canes.
This way the bush is constantly rejuvenated.

Thanks for reply. I'm with you on cutting out stems after fruiting, which I do. Perhaps I should have said the rust is on 'last year's new stems/this year's fruiting stems'.
