They're hardy, so don't need protection, other than from really wet, windy weather while they're small. Having them outside stops them growing too quickly and softly, and is the best way to grow them. They germinate more slowly and make stronger plants.

However, if you've been growing them inside, keep pinching them out or they'll just get leggy and weak, and gradually get them hardened off a bit.   You want strong, bushy plants when you get them out in their final positions. That way, they'll be less susceptible to slug attacks, and will grow on well. image

Nothing yet, as it's too early for most seeds.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
  • My first sowing of Petunia seeds have mostly germinated. Taking them off the heat mats so I have room for the violet, baby duck, African sunset and some yellow petunia seed plantings. I have to get my yellows and reds Rudbekias germinating this week.

  • I have to have a look at what perennial seeds I have stored in my fridge. Might get some of those seeds going.
