Sweet peas not flowering
I grew sweet peas for the first time in March - pinched them out, fed them with tomato food in the ground, put them in a sunny site, watered them. They grew like mad and made lots of leafy growth and tendrils everywhere but I had very few flowers. I cut off the flowers that did come carefully to stop seedpods developing but still very few flowers developed. Where did I go wrong? Variety was Matecuna. Thank you for any help.

You fed tomato food too soon and maybe too strong. You don't feed till after they start flowering.
I think Dave is right.
You did everything else right.
Don't let it put you off though.
Cause he thinks she melts when he touches her
She knows she's the chocolate girl
Cause she's broken up and swallowed
And wrapped in bits of silver
Thanks for your advice, Dave and Puncdoc. Have just been in the greenhouse sowing some bicoloured ones for next year - Blue Ripple, Erewhon and Maloy. Forgot to check if they are scented but it is too late now.
Next year I won't give them any tomato food until they show me they are making an effort to flower on their own. They'd better shape up next time!
