I think you'll be better off getting the advice of a properly qualified tree-surgeon/arboriculturist .... don't suppose your neighbour's qualifications include that do they?

What you have is a mast year. The tree produces a massive amount of fruit.(beech masts)
This is turn feeds a burgeoning population of birds and rodents.
It may have fewer next year , just a natural variation.
