Lupin advice

i grew these lupins from seed this year. I know they won't flower until next year but can I still plant them in my borders now or will they be massacred by slugs?

You can plant them in your borders but you will have to keep an eye out for the slugs.

The problem is at that size a large slug will decimate them in one night and they may not recover.  If you have room I would put them in 15cm pots and later 20cm and grow them on until next spring.  You'll then have magnificent plants next year.

Oh dear BobTheGardener, unfortunately I went straight out and planted them before seeing your post. Never mind, I'll just have to hope the beer traps work and keep my eyes open. I put my zinnias out over a week ago and they're ok so far, whereas last year I only ended up with one plant that flowered!
