bare root shrubs

Hi aym, if I was to try your cutting 1) method, should I use a new green shoot?

I have a large forsythia in my front garden that is currently in full bloom. It grows like a tree with a thick trunk and bushy at the top. My neighbour told me that it's older than me, its leaning over and gets more wonky every year. I fear it's time may soon be up and would like to keep something of the tree but I'm rubbish at cuttings, they always fail. image

Aym, don't think layering will work for me the branches are too high up.

I chopped back over two thirds of it last year as it was hanging over the pavement, it's looking a bit sorry for itself this year and its an odd shape now.image
