Help to Identify this Shrub

Hello all,

Please can somebody help me to identify this shrub.

I think it seems to be a Magnolia but it would be great if somebody could tell me exactly which one.

I have had it for around 15 years now and this is only the second year it has flowered.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Tony

That's a beauty.  I'll keep an eye on this thread as I'd love whatever type it turns out to be. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I really do hope someone can help.

I bought it as as seed from Durham University Botanical Garden a long time ago so i have no memory of what it was.

It has very large green oval shaped leaves that turn pale yellow in late Autumn.

I did do a quick check of the internet as you provided a great pic of the flower but couldn't see anything with a white flower that looked the same .... sorry image

Contact Durham Uni Botanical whatnot and send them a pic. They'll be bound to have an email address somewhere image

Looks like a form of Magnolia Stellata.Possibly a hybrid of some form as the flower has more petals than the standard form.

It looks very similar to a Pink Magnolia Stellata named Jane Platt which is offered for sale by Burncoose Nurseries, so it would possibly be best to contact them, as they hold a National Collection, and they may be able to give you a correct identification.
