How strong are a fatsia japonica's roots?

Hi,

I would like to plant a fatsia japonica in front of our new (and pricey!) brick wall but am concerned that its roots may grow too strong over time and damage the footings of the wall. (I'm just starting out on the whole gardening malarky! image )

(The one I want to put in is potted at the mo and about 4 ft high.) Any thoughts?

    Plant it just a little way out from the wall - 18" minimum, as the ground right up close can be very dry - the wall can stop rain from falling there, and the bricks can also suck up any moisture.

    I'm amazed it got to mine - they're frozen - I've just put the heating on!!!  Of course, that means that the rain has stopped and the sun has come out imageimage

    The wall will be fine: Fatsia do not form problem roots, as per above they are actually quite weak and fibrous.
