Starting Fresh

Hi All,

I have absolutely no gardening knowledge but looking for some help to recover my garden. Basically its a rented house and havent touched the lawn in 3 years. So it is an absolute overgrown nightmare. I need to start again so I am looking for advice on the best way to do it.

Do I need to get some weedkiller and kill everything then turf or what is the best way to proceed?

Thanks for your help

Start by mowing it on high setting, then raking it all off. Water it , then mow it again a few days later. Three weeks of mowing every three days will make a huge difference.

  • I am pretty certain it is mostly weeds though... ?

If you insist on doing the area yourself, you could try a strimmer. This hand-held rotary machine will cut down mainly non-woody high growing weeds/grass. If the area is small, you can use an upright pair of shears to snip everthing down first. Then, rake off the weeds/grass and start using the lawn mower on high setting at least once a week.

With the weeds, there are numerous products in most supermarkets and hardware stores. Be careful with them, particularly on windy days. Read the label as some are targeting certain types of weeds and some literally kill everything.
