Help identifying plant

Please excuse my complete gardening ignorance...
Could someone please tell me what this plant is? It has a white blossom.
I would also also like to know if I can cut it back and turn it in to a ground covering bush as I already have a tall tree next to it.

From what I can make out , it looks like Deutzia scabra ; normally they grow as an upright shrub . I don't think it would make a particularly good ground cover . Is there any option to move all or part of it to a sunnier position ?
