Does anyone know what this plant is that has seeded itself in my lawn?
An orchid, probably the Common Spotted Orchid.
Wow, and orchid in your lawn Rosie, you are so lucky. Common it may be but I for one would love to have an orchid in my lawn. A friend of mine had some in her field - 3 in the first year, 14 the next and 28 this year - they look fantastic.
Thanks for the replies.
My lawn has been a bit neglected for a while as I had an accident and fractured my hip so not a lot of gardening was done.
On the bright side several interesting plants have seeded themselves in the lawn and the birds love my garden now.
Neglected lawns are often full of interesting things ... carry on with no weedkiller and no fertiliser and your orchids should multiply
