Chicken resistant plants?

Hi, 

I have recently moved house and now have a garden with several very old apple trees at the end. Currently there is just bare ground beneath the trees, and next week we will be getting some chickens which will live in this area (fenced in). I'd really like to make this part of the garden a little more interesting as it's quite a large chunk of our space, and was wondering if anybody had suggestions for plants which might be unpalatable for chickens as well as able to live happily in a very shady area? If these even exist, that is!

    I love chickens,and have looked after gardens where the chickens wander pretty freely, but find the plants they don't want to eat, they're happy to snuggle down and rest on, or dig a nice dust bath beside them. 

    IMHO no plants are " chicken proof"
