Problem with new plum tree

Hi all,

I planted a Victoria plum tree in about March of this year.  It was a potted tree from a garden centre rather than a bare root tree.

It seemed to shoot well and fairly vigorously but every leaf/new growth that appeared has gone brown round the edges and then all over.  It's still trying to sprout from the buds on the branches but the leaves look very unhealthy.  We thought it might have been frost damage from a few cold nights in April but the problems are continuing.

It is planted in a reasonably sunny location and we have regularly watered it through any dry spells/days.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is here and how we can solve it?

Thanks

When you say you have watered it well in dry spells ....... how much water and how often?

I would be giving a newly planted fruit tree a bucket full of water at least three times a week every week, more often in dry spells - especially in a dry year such as this.

  • Thanks for the response. This is about how much and how often we have been watering it.
