Creeping Thyme Lawn

Has anybody grown a creeping thyme lawn? I would love to hear how successful it was. I am going to attempt to grow a small section of my garden, approx. 3 metres square, I have grown a lot of seedlings which need planting on at this time. The ground is currently covered with newspaper and wood chip since March, I doubt the seedling will be large enough to be planted this year.
Do I need to pinch the top off the seedlings?, or as they are creepers, do I leave them alone?
I have done a lot of research about thyme lawns, but it would be nice to hear someone's personal experiences, pros and cons, etc.
