Help! Cucumber infestation

We are attempting to grow cucumbers again this year after our entire crop died last year, but we have an infestation of aphids. We know black fly is common on these plants, but from the descriptions this doesn't seem to be black fly.

I am brushing off insects and spraying with soapy water twice daily but the plants are still being eaten and covered in flies.

We were advised to keep french marigolds close by to discourage the aphids, which we've done. What else can we try? imageimage

TIA

  • Following with interest, I have similar problem with  globe artichokes (and camomile, and sage...) Have just been squishing/hosing them off but there's more every day...

  • They don't seem to have spread to any neighbouring plants, just the cucumbers.
