New star jasmine question

Hi

Recently planted a Star Jasmine.

Could any of you advise me on the shape?

Should I sort of 'unravel' the various parts to spread it wider before it grows up onto the trellis?

It sort of looks a little bit bunched up. Father in law says keep the canes and don't touch it but I'm just double checking image

I'd strongly suggest unraveling it then tying it onto your trellis. Try and get it to go sideways along the trellis, it will go upwards by itself.
There will be masses of long  new growth over the coming weeks which you can also tie-in.

You could keep the canes in for now, but try to unravel some of the  young stems nearer the top section to get it ready to spread outwards. Once established you can take the canes out. The canes could come out in the next  5-8 months.

  • Thank you both

I've been dying to unravel! I'll do that this evening image

  • Does this look about right?

I will coax it sideways as it grows a bit.

I recently planted one similar to yours and it has shown great growth over the last few weeks. I also unfurled mine.

  • That's beautiful Dave image and that's before the flowers!

I hope mine grows as well.

Looking good. Judging by the rapid growth, you don't need the canes in a matter of 2 months.
