Tall wild flower ID help

a_good_brewa_good_brew East AngliaPosts: 37

Hi

A pretty and tall wild flower has appeared in our garden this year in about three places, and we've not seen it before.  It's about 5 ft tall, has spires of small purple flowers and is loved by the bees.  It's in flower now.

Hi ... afraid your photo hasn't appeared ...... start with the camera icon and follow instructions ... if it doesn't appear try reducing the size

That looks like a nice example of Purple Toadflax .... Linaria purpurea ... self sows itself around but is easily recognised and removed if it strays out of it's allotted area, and as you say, loved by bees

    Excellent, thank you.

It's a linaria purpurea, it is very easily grown from seed, I have also a pale pink version,

but - they spread like mad, I live in the south, so they behave like perennials and grow back every year.

They are beautiful in a bunch of flowers and the insects love them.

Must be the Canon Went one. Never see it grown much.

I have Canon Went. It self seeds like crazy all over the garden. Found a seedling in my sand bed in the greenhouse today - how did that happen????

That's been one of my need to IDs - another one ticked off!
