What's attacking my Hedge
Hello All
Not a gardener however the wife wanted the hedge saved when we moved in 4 years ago, and having undertook a lot of work to bring this then monster back to a manageable task, was upset to see that hedge seems to be under attack from unknown source quite severely, which I failed to notice before this morning.
It was sheared Easter weekend and the whole hedge was fine and all leaves in good health. We never really water it and does fine on its own. Can any one assist me as to what may be occurring and any remedies i could apply would be welcome.
I have read a few threads today and see each problem stands alone, so photo's are needed so you experts to examine, hopefully there clear enough
Bit of a mis match on photos im afraid.
Hopefully you can inform me of hedge type and name name which would be nice to know and importantly recognise disease and know cures. Also included photos of another bush which grows within hedge, quote nice so left it alone, any ideas what that is also.
Many thanks in advance

What a shame after all your hard work.
I see some of the leaves are curled, are there any bugs on the underside of these leaves?
The hedge looks like a privet, about which I know nothing, so will leave for others, but I wonder if lack of water is the origination of the problem. Not sure where you are, but around Essex etc we've had so little rain the last year this has weakened many shrubs and I have lost some to drought and others have succumbed to infection as they are weak due to lack of water. I see the bush is the first in the row and in a corner between a wall and fence, so lack of water may be the root cause (no pun intended
Others may have more knowledge and have a better idea
The mystery leaf looks like it's from an Ash tree

Thanks Pete8 for reply.
I live in Essex as well, and beginning last night was going to water with diligence for a whole but then you put me right
I hadn't noticed any bugs yesterday, but by going to take a fresh photo to upload, the black marks on underside are bugs / mites which I thought were stains within the leaves. A start. Don't know if you can see but this is a photo showing the buggers. Presumably that would be the one and only cause?
Does anyone recognise or able to take an educated guess as to what they are, as the destruction being caused is excessive and ferocious to my mind. Is there any specific or best general insecticide i could spray to start the fightback and what other measures could I employ?
I didn't realise pivot hedges grew so tall or had leaves so large. Is there anything i should be doing to get them to flourish assuming I'm able to save th fr present onslaught.
That's an Ash. Well well. The trunk of the tree then is so straight and narrow. Does grow well though shoots further than hedge about a foot taller at present. See photos
Thanks for your thoughts much appreciated and made me look again to see something I missed, amongst many no doubt.
Regards
The bugs look like a few aphids which are taking advantage of the weakened state of the plant. I doubt they are the cause.
The only thing I can think of is a lack of water.
Others may have have alternative suggestions, but that's all I can come up with.
As I mentioned I have little knowledge of privet, so there may be a privet-specific bug or virus that's the cause
Best of luck
