Plant ID

I am trying to identify some of my neighbours interesting plants. I like the purple flowering shrub and the green spiky leafed plant but have no idea what they are. Can anyone ID them? Also the new green plant next to the fence?

Looks like ceanothus and laurel to me - not sure about the spiky plant, phormium or yucca maybe?  Someone more knowledgeable than me will no doubt respond shortly!

    Phormiums - two of them.

Ceanothus, and looks like laurel, for the others.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

could also be as cordyline rather than a yucca.  difficult to know without seeing the base.  Can you not ask the neighbour of they know ?  They may also provide some help on care tips or local growing conditions.  Just a thought.

  • Yes I had thought of that but don't know them very well, I work long shifts I never get to see them! I think they have had their garden landscaped, it looks amazing. I have looked up the yukka and it may well be a Cordyline. It's certainly given me some inspiration for my garden. I have a bare patch at the bottom where I want to put some more unusual plants that don't take much upkeep. I'm thinking of putting some sort of trellis up and have a seating area in it. I cant wait to get started now.. just need the husband to get the base done and get the trellis up.
