Rowan specific Aphids

Do we have any members with experience here? Leaves are yellowing and being curled inwards by hundreds of them, followed by honeydew sucking ants. The blue tits & hoverflies are no where to be seen this year & the balance is tipping over. It's a 20ft tree so I'm guessing blasting with water is the only option? Want to avoid pesticides for the bees etc.

Rowans are fairly indestructible Mark. If they're really bad, a jet of water is the best idea, but encouraging those little birds in is the best method of control. An otherwise healthy tree will recover. Don't let the tree suffer from lack of water anyway - they like plenty of moisture.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Cheers Fairy, I'll be out there with my step ladder & the hose looking like a right wally for the neighbours
