Medlar bud dropping
I have a young medlar tree - planted last autumn at 3-4 years old. It seemed to like its location as it produced good growth and plenty of buds this spring. I am disappointed as, in spite of the tree looking otherwise healthy, all these lovely buds are just dropping to the ground without opening. Does anyone know why this might be?

Drought? It takes a lot of moisture to produce a flower and it's been a very dry winter and spring.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
It could be but that wouldn't be my first thought as I have watered a lot in addition to the wet where I live in North Yorks - plus everything else in the garden looks fine and as it should be. Thanks though, I will make sure I give it plenty of water next year.
