azalea pruning - help

in Plants
I've just rescued two small azaleas from my grandfathers garden (at 92 he's decided he can't garden anymore and is going into home)
they've been overgrown with couch grass for many years and are now very leggy (2 foot tall with leaves only on the end 3 - 4 inches of branch),
I've raked out all the soil from the roots, removed all trace of the couch grass and replanted them in pots with a decent ericaceous compost over the winter and now they're in full flower.
my question is how had can I prune them back? and when do I do that, i'm assuming after they have finished flowering?
