Caesalpinia pulcherrima/Peacock Flower

Has anyone grown this plant - it is classed as exotic and from South America.  I have planted some seeds which have now germinated.  Is it difficult to grow?

    Mine germinate really easily.

Whopping large things pop up in the pot.

However I find it very difficult to keep them going.

They look really healthy, then just keel over after about 3weeks. Would love any advice about keeping them happy. They are wonderful one day and flopped the next.

You and me both flowerlady.  I have just potted up three of the largest seedlings into small pots of homemade compost mix - a bit of peat, sand, gravel and leaf mould, and will see what happens over the next few weeks.  Will keep you posted.

    Thank you!

it is so frustrating when you think they're doing so well. They don't even look "sickly" for a few days - just over they go!

Once you've cracked it, I'll sow some more, but I'm not wasting any more seeds for now!

I have used the whole packet of seeds - they were given to me and I really didn't expect them to germinate so was surprised after just a week or two to see these 1 - 2cm seedlings pop out as you say. I also sowed some silk tree seeds which have also germinated very quickly and some Bat tree/plant seeds which haven't done anything yet.

Fingers crossed that mine won't keel over. Watch this space flowerlady3.
