It's May can I report my Acer?
Hello Everyone, I have a large old Acer which is severely pot bound and struggling. Can I repot it now? I am afraid if I do it now I may loose it.
Kind wishes Jackie.

I would, I know nothing of acers in pots but common sense says it needs repotting. I'd loosen the root just a little bit, give it more space and a good soak.

You can re-pot now. Soak the whole pot in a big bucket if you can or water liberally and let it stand and soak for a while so that you can remove the root ball more easily. If it resists, I find scraping down the sides of the pot with an old bread knife helps loosen things up.
Loosen the roots as Nut says so they stop going round and round and can spread out laterally. Use good quality John Innes no 3 mixed with about 1/4 of multi purpose compost and water well afterwards.
