Have you given them a bucket of water each week. ?
Even established plants have been struggling these last few weeks. What little rain we have had here has not even penetrated. Try scraping a branch with a thumb nail to see if it is green underneath.
Agree with fidget. The suppliers are a bit naughty sending bare root trees out so late and I have a couple of 'Lucky Red' bare root magnolias sent about then which are still alive (thumbnail test as above) but are still dormant. I suspect they were kept in cold storage. If so, they will just be behind and as long as regularly watered should wake up eventually.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
lizgow, just to let you know my 'Lucky Red' (aka 'Red Lucky' it seems!) have finally started to show signs of life - the buds are now swelling noticably and a leaf has appeared from the largest bud. How are yours getting on?
