Needles falling off

Hi. I have had a Norwegian pine christmas tree for 5 years now. It was bought from a garden centre and was about 12 inches tall. We re potted it into a bigger container and it has flourished every year and is now 4 ft tall. Just recently we noticed that the needles have started falling off and it looks like it's dying. Can someone please help.

    Hi Mark image

Can you post a photo please ... close up and the whole tree.  To upload pic click on the camera icon ... if it doesn't upload reducing the size usually works.

Unless you have refreshed the compost through the years it could be that it is lacking nutrients. You should also pay close attention to watering containerised plants - even when it rains - as they often don't get quite enough and this would lead to needle loss.

Sorry I can't upload pic as I am at work.

The tree is always well watered and new compost and fertilizer added regularly. The planter it is now is 3ft tall and 2ft by 2ft width.

Curiouser and curiouser. There is a needle blight I believe that can cause this needle drop but I don't know much about it.
