Two trees/shrubs in need of help

imageimage

i have inherited 2 trees/shrubs. Both are looking quite poorly.  unfortunately I don't know what they are called or what they need.

the one with the reddish leaves still shows some sign of new growth but the other looks awful.

any advice appreciated.imageimage

I think the first one is dead,so chuck it out!

The second looks like a Photinia.

It's not completely gone so there is hope.

I would cut out all the stuff you see that is obviously dead, give it a really good water and a feed and see how it goes from there.

Maybe keep it in the shade for now as well.

On my screen the first and last pics are of a photinia which I suspect has suffered some frost damage - but I also think it's struggling to survive in that little pot.

Photinias want to be big shrubs and it would probably be better off in the ground or repotted in a much bigger pot. As MP says you need to cut off all the dead shoots and give it a load of TLC.

I agree that the other shrub appears to be dead.

My photinia is doing that too. It survived the cold but I think we have had some strong cold winds this week that has gotten it.
