Can anyone tell me what this is..?

image

Hi,

A new branch seems to have formed on my tree and I just wondered if it was a weed, should i cut it off? At first i thought it might flower but its staying closed so far and in the two years i've lived here, it hasn't flowered before, only just noticed the new branch a few weeks ago. Any information would be appreciated, i'm not even sure what the tree is to be honest, cordyline? It was here when i moved into the property.

thank you :)

Cordyline - and that's the flower spike. image

The flowers are very small and quite insignificant. It's very early for them to be at flowering stage anyway, but they'll gradually open unless they get some cold weather - which is quite possible.  They can take a while to flower too.

For a minute there I thought you meant the telegraph pole!

You are lucky to have a flower spike as they don't always produce one - so it must be 'happy'.

  • Aww thank you so much for your replies!! haha the pole is in the right place, isn't it ? oh i'm glad it's happy, thats the only place the house gets any sun! Thanks again :)

They smell divine too (in my opinion) - enjoy it when it opens.
