Pieris Japonica - thirsy or drowning?

imageimage

I bought a large-ish Pieris (Red Mill if it matters).  I left it in the pot in FULL SUN against a fence, but I did water it very regularly and heavily.  Overnight it suddenly "wilted" (although the white plumes of flowers don't seem to have suffered much) with all the red leaves turning brown and shrivelling... I have quickly planted it out (and watered it) but now thinking it might be waterlogged - or the dreaded vine weevil.  Any thoughts very gratefully received. Thank you very, very much!

when did this happen, could it have been frosted? New leaves are very sensitive.

Possibly as we did have some "chilly" evenings last week.  Do you think I should snip off the damaged leaves or leave it alone for a while?  thank you!

I would say frost damage.  You can snip off the affected leaves.

Excellent - thanks all, makes sense! I shall get busy with the scissor. Thanks again!
