dwarf / short plants / short stem / short internodes

What's wrong with my plants !! why they have short stems and short internodes close to the stem? 2 Squash and 1 Eggplant Does anyone have any idea what's causing this ?!

Notice the side shoots how short as if they are glued to the stem and they are many.

THEY LOOK LIKE FINE HEALTHY PLANTS TO ME. NO MILDEW, NO YELLOW LEAVES, NO WILTING, NO INSECT DAMAGE. PLENTY OF THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT. SHORT STEMS AIN'T ONE OF THEM IN MY BOOK.image

HERE IS A PHOTO, CHOSEN RANDOMLY FROM GOOGLE, WHICH SHOWS A SQUASH PLANT. IT LOOKS AN AWFUL LOT LIKE YOURS. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO GROW A PLANT LIKE THAT.

I agree. Your plants look fine.
