Nest boxes
i notice in the wildlife section of " The garden" RHS mag that the communal nest boxes for sparrows have a small landing pad near the hole. We have made a semi detached box, should we put a small landing pad under the entrance hole.
Thank very much for replies.

Don't know about sparrows particularly but generally nest boxes shouldn't have a platform/perch - the birds will just fly straight in/out of the hole and a perch can give a foothold to predators raiding the nest. There are some exceptions like owl/kestrel boxes, but not for standard small boxes.
RSPB design doesn't have a perch

Thank guys, wouldn't want to create a danger for them
