There was a thread about these last year and many folk found they soon developed leaks or knots or other problems.   I reckon a normal hosepipe on a reel is likely to be more sturdy.   I had one of the guaranteed none kinking type that lasted over 20 years.  On my second one now.

I had one and it wasnt as good as I had hoped.  It sprouted leaks especially from the point where it connected to the spraying gun, and holes elsewhere, and I ended up buying about 4 as I was joining two together.  They lasted two years in total max, but they are lightweight and you may like them for that reason..  There is a knack if your water pressure isnt good, which is to allow the hose to fill up completely with the spray gun turned off, and then turn it on for use, otherwise you will never be able to take advantage of its full length.

I would imagine that a lot of the problems with any expandable hoses are to do with water pressure. If pressure is too high or changeable and it threatens to rupture. Too low and it won't expand. Anything that adds pressure, like pressure washing, spray gun attachments or using it high up, would make things trickier.
  • I’ve had 2 and both burst quite quickly. First time I used a spray gun and assumed that was the problem. With the second I used only the end supplied and it still burst after a few weeks. Hose on the roller is heavier but lasts no matter how you use it.

I love my exandable Hozelock, but the last one was attacked by fox pups who torn it to sheds overnight. :s
I will get another because they just work so well for me generally - a gamechanger for my small garden. I don't use it over far distance, with gadgets or high pressure and they don't leak for me so far. I don't want them to be contributing to more landfill, though.
