Asparagus

I have been given some asparagus which has been in a friend's garden growing and cropping well.
I have been told to put a small pot under the roots when planting the crowns, is this a wind up or does it truly help with rooting.
Also do I go back to 2 years before using crop
Many thanks

NO, IT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA. ASPARAGUS CROWNS ARE SHAPED LIKE AN OCTOPUS WITH THE ROOTS HANGING DOWN. THEY ARE ALSO BRITTLE. SO GIVING THEM A SHAPE TO SUPPORT THEM WHEN YOU PLANT THEM IS GOOD SENSE. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE.
When I planted asparagus I dug a trench then formed a mound of earth in it to hang the roots down. Don't harvest any the first year and very few the second year. My bed lasted 15 or 16 years and I only dug it up because bindweed got into it.
Thank you makes sense now appreciated both of you will go and give it a try
