Hello, I have lots of these dense leaves growing in my front garden, they are covered in fine hairs that can be sore if they get into your skin. They grow alongside some 'ladies and gentlemen' and seem like they might be related (similar shape leaves etc)? Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi elspeth. It could be alkanet but I'm not 100% sure.
certain aspects of it look like Viper's Bugloss, Echium vulgare. Have you got any more photos?
What are Ladies and Gentleman, is that the same as Lords and Ladies?

Think so, that's what my mum calls them anyway!
Heres another pic, I like it for ground cover and stopping the weeds-they've been like that all winter-but was wondering if they might produce any nice flowers-might have to dig them up if not... ?
just googled your suggestions and, yes, I think it's vipers bugloss, looks like there might be some interesting flowers to come, will give it a chance (despite the ouchy leaves...). thanks nutcutlet and ladybird for responding, appeciate it!
The bees absolutely love the flowers elspeth so do try to keep them if you can. I would love to have a big clump like that.
It's a biennial so let it seed if you want some for the future
