Looking at the emerging flower spike, I'd say foxglove.

Can I change my mind and say Digitalis ferruginea??
Thank you all - I dug it up from last year and put it in a raised bed to rearrange my border - and then had no idea what it was as I hadn't seen a flower spike last year. I do hope it's the Digitalis ferruginea! Happy gardening ?

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
