Decapitation a possibilty
Well the new "man shed" is up and nearly full to rafters again! Now the dodgy bit, taking down the large old greenhouse. Many panes are brittle and broken and on the slide. Going inside requires nerves of steel and body armour. Thought we might break glass into empty refuse bin then tie down lid and transport to local tip, one main problem is a huge Clematis with an ivy which is leaning on the greenhouse. Goodness knows what it will do when support is removed. Moved into house June 2015 and this is last major job. Clematis is too beautiful to lose. Wish us luck⛑
Will be undressing Cyril Snow soon as hopefully no more bad frost for the tree fern ☃️

It is lovely. Could you not put in some posts and wires to support the clematis before dismantling the greenhouse? Just a thought.
Hi Dave, we cannot get behind or to one side of the greenhouse, will see if we can thread a wire through and attach to new fence post. As you see it is a monster at least 8 ft high in places, it is just starting to leaf up and with this lovely sun today will really get going. Hubby not that keen on it ( you cannot eat it, he's a veggie grower) as it is just twigs for a lot of the year but I love it. Anyway thanks for idea hope a version of it works, will post when job done?

After it has flowered, cut it as short as you wish. It will be more manageable then. It will recover more quickly than you think!
A shame to lose it, but as Welshonion says, it would only be temporary. It'll grow back.
In the meantime, you can sort out a new support for it which will make managing it much easier in future
